Many times, we bring our requests to God with faith, but at the same time, we remain anxious and restless, as if he were unable or unwilling to answer. It’s like handing something over to someone and then, minutes later, taking it back—showing a lack of trust.
The Word of God teaches us that when we pray and ask for something, we must truly surrender, fully trust, and peacefully rest in the Lord, knowing that He is faithful to fulfill His promises.
1. Surrender: Placing it in God’s hands
The first step is to surrender everything that worries us to the Lord.
-
Psalm 37:5 – “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will do this.”
-
1 Peter 5:7 – “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
To surrender means to give up control and recognize that God knows what is best. It requires humility and submission.
2. Trust: Believing in God’s character and promises
After surrendering, we need to trust. It’s not enough to place something in God’s hands and then doubt His actions.
-
Proverbs 3:5-6 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
-
Jeremiah 17:7 – “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”
Trust is resting in God’s faithfulness even when we don’t see immediate results.
3. Rest: Living in peace while we wait
When we surrender and trust, the next step is to rest. Resting is not passivity—it’s living in peace, believing that God is working.
-
Psalm 62:1 – “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.”
-
Philippians 4:6-7 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Resting means living without anxiety, knowing that God is working even in the silence.
Practical application
-
When you pray, speak to God as a child speaks to a loving Father.
-
Avoid “taking back” the worry after praying.
-
Remember: God’s timing is not our timing, but it is always perfect.
Conclusion
Surrendering, trusting, and resting in the Lord is an act of faith and spiritual maturity. It’s recognizing that God is in control and that His plan is better than ours. When we do this, we experience the peace that surpasses all understanding and we see God’s hand at work.
Closing Prayer
Lord, today I place before You all my requests, anxieties, and concerns. I surrender everything into Your hands, I trust in Your love and power, and I choose to rest in Your care. Help me not to live in anxiety, but to wait with patience and faith, knowing that You are faithful to fulfill Your promises. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
