Main Text: John 20:29 – “Jesus said to him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’”
Introduction
Many times, we want to see first before we believe. That was the case with Thomas, who declared that he would only believe in the resurrection of Jesus if he could touch the marks of the nails in His hands. But the Lord teaches us a powerful principle: true blessedness is in believing without seeing.
Faith is the foundation of the Christian life. It is not based on what we see, but on what we hope for and trust in God, even when our natural eyes cannot perceive a way out.
1. The definition of faith
Hebrews 11:1 – “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”
Faith is like a bridge that connects us to the impossible. It gives us the certainty that even when circumstances say “no,” God has already decreed a “yes.”
2. Walking by faith, not by sight
2 Corinthians 5:7 – “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
The apostle Paul reminds us that the Christian life does not depend on appearances.
-
Sometimes our eyes see scarcity, but by faith we trust in the God of provision.
-
Our eyes see sickness, but by faith we believe in the God who heals.
-
Our eyes see closed doors, but by faith we see the hand that opens ways in the desert.
3. Examples of faith beyond sight
-
Abraham: “By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.” (Hebrews 11:8). He did not see the future, but he trusted the God who promised.
-
Moses: “By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.” (Hebrews 11:27). He faced the impossible because his spiritual eyes were fixed on God.
-
The woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:28): She did not see her healing before touching Jesus, but she said in her heart, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”
-
The centurion (Matthew 8:10): He believed that just one word from Jesus was enough to heal his servant, without needing visible proof.
4. The promise for those who believe without seeing
Jesus said: “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29).
This means that every time we choose to trust without visible evidence, we step into a dimension of blessings reserved for those who live by faith.
Conclusion
My dear brother, my dear sister, maybe today you are surrounded by situations that seem impossible. Your eyes see difficulty, but your faith must see victory. Do not walk by what your eyes show you, but by what God has promised.
-
Remember: “Without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6).
-
Keep believing, even when you cannot see.
-
Trust that the Lord can turn the invisible into reality.
Closing Prayer
“Lord, increase our faith. Teach us to walk not by what we see, but by trusting in Your Word. May we be among those who believe without seeing, and who experience the impossible through You. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
