Introduction
Every healthy tree produces fruit.
Jesus used many illustrations about trees, seeds, and vines to teach us a deep spiritual truth: our lives reveal who we really are before God.
It is not what we say, not the religion we claim, not our outward appearance — but the fruits we bear.
So today the question is simple and direct:
👉 Are you bearing fruit?
👉 If Jesus looked at the “tree” of your life today, what would He find?
👉 Only leaves? Only appearance? Or real fruit?
1. God expects fruit from us
Jesus told the parable of the barren fig tree (Luke 13:6–9).
The tree was planted, it occupied space, received sun and rain — but it bore no fruit.
The result?
The owner said: “Cut it down.”
This teaches us something serious:
✔ God looks for fruit in our lives
✔ He is patient, but He is not indifferent
✔ Living without bearing fruit is not neutral — it is spiritually dangerous
Jesus also said:
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser… Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away.”
John 15:1–2
We were not called merely:
– to attend church
– to hold titles
– to say “I believe”
We were called to bear fruit.
2. What kind of fruit are we producing?
The Bible shows two types of fruit.
🌿 Works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19–21)
– jealousy
– immorality
– hatred
– quarrels
– envy
– outbursts of anger
– drunkenness
– selfishness
These reveal a heart far from the Spirit.
Jesus said:
“A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.”
Matthew 7:18
In other words: the fruit reveals the root.
It is not the label that defines us — it is the fruit.
3. The Fruit of the Spirit — evidence of a life filled with God
Paul says:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is…”
Galatians 5:22–23
Notice something important:
📌 He does not say “fruits” (plural)
📌 He says “fruit” (singular)
Which means:
✔ It is one complete work
✔ We do not choose some and reject others
✔ It is the character of Christ formed in us
Let’s look at each one:
1️⃣ Love
The foundation of everything.
Not just emotion — but a decision to act like Christ.
2️⃣ Joy
Not based on circumstances, but rooted in God.
3️⃣ Peace
Inner rest, even in the middle of storms.
4️⃣ Patience (longsuffering)
The ability to endure without murmuring.
5️⃣ Kindness
A gentle heart that does not harm.
6️⃣ Goodness
Doing what is right, even when no one sees.
7️⃣ Faithfulness
Being constant, trustworthy, committed to God and people.
8️⃣ Gentleness
Strength under control — responding without aggression.
9️⃣ Self-control
Overcoming the flesh, impulses, desires, and addictions.
This kind of fruit shows that:
👉 Christ lives in us
👉 The Holy Spirit governs our lives
👉 We are not just believers — we are disciples
4. How can we produce this fruit?
Jesus answered clearly:
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you unless you abide in Me.”
John 15:4–5
It is not by human strength.
It is not “I will try harder to be better.”
Fruit is not manufactured — fruit grows.
It grows when we:
✔ pray
✔ read the Word
✔ obey
✔ walk in the Spirit
✔ deny ourselves
The closer we are to Jesus,
the more we become like Him.
Final questions for reflection
🔍 What fruit does your family see in you?
🔍 Do your children see Christ in you?
🔍 Do your coworkers notice a difference?
🔍 Is God pleased with your spiritual life today?
This is not to condemn you — it is to awaken you.
If the fruits are not good, Jesus can change the root today.
Conclusion
God is calling us to a fruitful life.
👉 Not a life of appearance
👉 Not empty religiosity
👉 But true transformation by the Holy Spirit
May we say:
✔ Lord, deal with my root
✔ Remove what does not glorify You
✔ Produce Your fruit in me
Closing Prayer
Lord our God,
We come before You, recognizing that many times we have lived fruitless lives, without producing fruit that glorifies Your name.
Forgive us for the works of the flesh, for attitudes, words, and behaviors that do not reflect the character of Christ.
Holy Spirit, transform our hearts.
Produce in us Your fruit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Remove from us everything that does not come from You
and make our lives a fruitful tree in Your presence.
