The New Life in Christ

 

                                                                    

Text: “I have been crucified with Christ; and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

Introduction

Dear brothers and sisters, the Christian life is not just about attending church, singing songs, or changing a few outward practices. The Gospel calls us to something much deeper: a radical and complete transformation from the inside out.

The apostle Paul summarizes this reality in Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ; and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.”
This means that the old life is behind us, and now we live a new life in Christ.

1. Crucified with Christ: the old life is gone

• When Paul says he is “crucified with Christ,” he shows that the old life, dominated by sin, no longer has power over us.

• The cross was not only the place of Jesus’ death, but also the place where our old nature was condemned.

• This means our old habits, thoughts, and attitudes can no longer define who we are.

Romans 6:6 says: “For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.”

2. Christ lives in us: the new identity

• A Christian no longer lives for himself, but now becomes a dwelling place for Christ.

• This completely changes the way we think, act, and make decisions.

• We are no longer guided by the passions of the flesh but by the living presence of the Holy Spirit within us.

2 Corinthians 5:17 confirms: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

3. Thinking with the mind of Christ

• Conversion does not only change the heart, it also changes the mind.

• In 1 Corinthians 2:16, Paul declares: “But we have the mind of Christ.”

• This means we now see life from a new perspective:

  • Where there was hatred, now there is forgiveness.

  • Where there was selfishness, now there is love.

  • Where there was fear, now there is faith.

Romans 12:2 also reminds us: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

4. New habits, new conduct

Life in Christ produces visible changes:

• New habits – we pray, read the Word, and pursue holiness.

• New mind – we no longer think as the world thinks but as Jesus thinks.

• New attitudes – we treat others with love, grace, and mercy.

The world must see in us the difference that Christ makes. Our life is the greatest testimony of the Gospel.

Brothers and sisters, living the new life in Christ is not always easy, but it is possible because Christ lives in us.
We no longer walk alone. He guides us, strengthens us, and transforms us day by day.

May we all declare with Paul: “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.”
And may every step, every word, and every action show the world that we now live with the mind and the heart of Christ.

A Nova Vida em Cristo

Introdução

Queridos irmãos, a vida cristã não é apenas frequentar a igreja, cantar louvores ou mudar algumas práticas externas. O Evangelho nos chama para algo muito mais profundo: uma transformação radical e completa de dentro para fora.

O apóstolo Paulo resume essa realidade em Gálatas 2:20: “Já estou crucificado com Cristo; e vivo, não mais eu, mas Cristo vive em mim.”
Isso significa que a vida antiga ficou para trás, e agora vivemos uma nova vida em Cristo.

• Quando Paulo diz que está “crucificado com Cristo”, ele mostra que a vida antiga, dominada pelo pecado, não tem mais poder sobre nós.

Romanos 6:6 diz: “sabendo isto, que o nosso velho homem foi com ele crucificado, para que o corpo do pecado seja desfeito, a fim de que não sirvamos mais ao pecado como escravos.”

2. Cristo vive em nós: a nova identidade

• O cristão não vive mais para si mesmo, mas agora é morada de Cristo.

• Isso muda completamente a maneira de pensar, agir e decidir.

• Não somos mais guiados pelas paixões da carne, mas pela presença viva do Espírito Santo em nós.

2 Coríntios 5:17 confirma: “Assim que, se alguém está em Cristo, nova criatura é: as coisas velhas já passaram; eis que tudo se fez novo.”

3. Pensando com a mente de Cristo

• A conversão não muda apenas o coração, mas também a mente.

• Em 1 Coríntios 2:16, Paulo declara: “Mas nós temos a mente de Cristo.”

• Isso significa que agora enxergamos a vida sob uma nova perspectiva.

  • Onde antes havia ódio, agora há perdão.

  • Onde antes havia egoísmo, agora há amor.

  • Onde antes havia medo, agora há fé.

Romanos 12:2 também reforça: “E não vos conformeis com este mundo, mas transformai-vos pela renovação do vosso entendimento.”

4. Novos hábitos, nova conduta

A vida em Cristo gera mudanças visíveis:

• Novos hábitos – oramos, lemos a Palavra, buscamos a santidade.

• Nova mente – deixamos de pensar como o mundo e começamos a pensar como Jesus.

• Novas atitudes – tratamos os outros com amor, graça e misericórdia.

O mundo precisa ver em nós a diferença que Cristo fez. Nossa vida é o maior testemunho do Evangelho.

Meus irmãos, viver a nova vida em Cristo não é fácil, mas é possível porque Cristo vive em nós.
Não caminhamos mais sozinhos. Ele nos guia, nos fortalece e nos transforma diariamente.

Que possamos declarar com Paulo: “Já não sou eu quem vive, mas Cristo vive em mim.”
E que cada passo nosso, cada palavra, cada atitude, mostre ao mundo que agora vivemos com a mente e o coração de Cristo.

All of us, at some point in life, face prisons that are not made of iron, but that trap the soul, heart, and mind. These prisons can be addictions, hidden sins, deep resentments, paralyzing fears, or even illnesses that weaken us physically and spiritually. The good news is that Jesus is still the Deliverer — and today He wants to break the chains that keep you from living the fullness of the life God has prepared for you.

📖 John 8:36 – “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”

1. God Promises to Deliver His People from Slavery

From the Old Testament, God reveals His desire to free His people from every form of captivity — whether physical, spiritual, or emotional.

📖 Isaiah 61:1 – “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.”

📖 Psalm 107:14 – “He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness, and broke away their chains.”

📖 Exodus 3:7-8 – “The Lord said, ‘I have indeed seen the misery of my people… So I have come down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up out of that land into a good and spacious land.’”

God not only sees your suffering — He acts to break the chains.

2. Jesus Frees from Spiritual Slavery

In Jesus’ earthly ministry, we see again and again His power over diseases, evil spirits, and spiritual prisons.

• Deliverance of the demon-possessed man in Gadara – Mark 5:1-15: A man lived among the tombs, chained and tormented by unclean spirits. No one could subdue him. But one encounter with Jesus changed everything — he was completely set free, clothed, and in his right mind.

• Healing of the crippled woman – Luke 13:11-13: For eighteen years, a woman had been bent over, unable to straighten up. Jesus said, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity,” and immediately she straightened up and praised God.

• Deliverance in prison – Acts 16:25-26: Paul and Silas, unjustly imprisoned, prayed and sang hymns; suddenly there was an earthquake that opened all the prison doors and broke the chains. God shows that no prison is too strong for Him to open.

3. What Is Holding You Captive Today?

Maybe it’s not iron chains, but:

• Addictions (alcohol, drugs, pornography, gambling)

• Hidden sins that enslave you

• Emotional wounds and past traumas

• Fears and anxieties that hold you back

• The prison of illness that weakens your faith

📖 Romans 6:16 – “Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey…?”

The enemy wants you to believe there is no way out. But Jesus says: “I am the Way.”

4. Jesus Has the Power to Break the Chains

No matter how strong the prison is, Jesus is stronger.
He conquered sin, death, and hell — and He is still victorious today.

📖 Colossians 1:13-14 – “For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

📖 Psalm 34:17 – “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles.”

Today, Jesus is asking: What is holding you captive?
Do not accept living as a slave to something He has already defeated on the cross. Give Him your life, your sins, and your fears. He has the power to open the doors, break the chains, and give you true freedom.

Todos nós, em algum momento da vida, enfrentamos prisões que não são de ferro, mas que aprisionam a alma, o coração e a mente. Essas prisões podem ser vícios, pecados escondidos, mágoas profundas, medos paralisantes, ou até doenças que nos enfraquecem física e espiritualmente.

 A boa notícia é que Jesus continua sendo o Libertador e ele quer, hoje, quebrar as correntes que te impedem de viver a plenitude da vida que Deus preparou para você.

1. Deus Promete Libertar Seu Povo da Escravidão

Desde o Antigo Testamento, Deus revela o seu desejo de libertar seu povo de toda forma de cativeiro; seja físico, espiritual ou emocional.

📖 Isaías 61:1 – “O Espírito do Senhor Deus está sobre mim, porque o Senhor me ungiu para pregar boas-novas aos quebrantados; enviou-me a curar os quebrantados de coração, a proclamar libertação aos cativos e a pôr em liberdade os algemados.”

📖 Salmos 107:14 – “Tirou-os das trevas e da sombra da morte e quebrou-lhes as cadeias.”

Deus não apenas vê o seu sofrimento, Ele age para quebrar as correntes.

2. Jesus Liberta da Escravidão Espiritual

No ministério terreno de Jesus, vemos repetidas vezes Seu poder sobre doenças, espíritos malignos e prisões espirituais.

• Libertação de um homem possesso em Gadara – Marcos 5:1-15: Um homem vivia nos sepulcros, acorrentado, atormentado por espíritos imundos. Ninguém podia dominá-lo. Mas bastou um encontro com Jesus para ele ser completamente liberto, vestido e em perfeito juízo.

• Cura da mulher encurvada – Lucas 13:11-13: Por dezoito anos, uma mulher estava encurvada, incapaz de se endireitar. Jesus disse: “Mulher, estás livre da tua enfermidade”, e imediatamente ela se endireitou e glorificou a Deus.

• Libertação nas prisões – Atos 16:25-26: Paulo e Silas, presos injustamente, oravam e cantavam hinos; de repente, houve um terremoto que abriu todas as portas e quebrou as correntes. Deus mostra que nenhuma prisão é forte demais para Ele abrir.

3. O Que Tem Te Aprisionado Hoje?

Talvez não sejam correntes de ferro, mas:

• Vícios (álcool, drogas, pornografia, jogos)

• Pecados que você esconde e que te escravizam

• Feridas emocionais e traumas do passado

• Medos e ansiedades que te impedem de avançar

• Prisões de enfermidades que enfraquecem a fé

📖 Romanos 6:16 – “Vocês não sabem que, quando se oferecem a alguém para lhe obedecer como escravos, tornam-se escravos daquele a quem obedecem...?”

O inimigo quer que você acredite que não há saída. Mas Jesus diz: "Eu sou o Caminho".

4. Jesus Tem o Poder de Quebrar as Correntes

Não importa a força da prisão, Jesus é mais forte.
Ele venceu o pecado, a morte e o inferno, e continua vencendo hoje.

📖 Colossenses 1:13-14 – “Ele nos libertou do império das trevas e nos transportou para o reino do Filho do seu amor, em quem temos a redenção, a remissão dos pecados.”

📖 Salmos 34:17 – “Clamam os justos, e o Senhor os ouve e os livra de todas as suas tribulações.”

Hoje, Jesus pergunta: O que tem te aprisionado?
Não aceite viver como escravo de algo que ele já venceu na cruz. Entregue a ele sua vida, seus pecados, seus medos. Ele tem poder para abrir as portas, quebrar as correntes e te dar liberdade verdadeira.

Introduction

We live daily in an invisible but very real battle: the struggle between the flesh and the spirit.
The Bible teaches us that “the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh; they are in conflict with each other” (Galatians 5:17).
The big question is: who is winning inside of us?
The answer is directly connected to whom we are feeding more — our sinful nature or our spirit.

1. The Spiritual Principle: We Are Servants of the One We Feed

Romans 6:16 says:

“Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?”

• If we invest our time, attention, and energy into satisfying the desires of the flesh, it will grow and dominate us.

• But if we invest in prayer, the Word, and fellowship with God, the Holy Spirit will have authority over us.

2. Feeding the Flesh

The flesh feeds on everything that distances us from God:

• Visible sins: immorality, lying, envy, hatred (Galatians 5:19-21).

• Subtle sins: pride, spiritual laziness, excessive love for the world (1 John 2:15-16).

When we give place to the flesh:

• Our spiritual sensitivity decreases.

• We lose the desire for prayer and Bible reading.

• We become more vulnerable to temptation.

3. Feeding the Spirit

The spirit is strengthened when:

• We meditate on the Word (Matthew 4:4 — “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God”).

• We pray constantly (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

• We live in fellowship with other believers (Hebrews 10:25).

• We worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24).

Results of a well-fed spirit:

• We produce the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

• We gain strength to resist sin.

• We live in peace, even in the midst of struggles.

4. The Danger of Neglecting Spiritual Life

Jesus warned that the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41).
If we neglect our spiritual life:

• We will make decisions based on emotions rather than God’s direction.

• We will lose the joy of salvation.

• We risk growing cold in the faith.

5. Decide Whom You Will Feed

The battle is daily, and the choice is ours.
Paul said in Colossians 3:2:

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

If we choose every day to feed the spirit:

• The flesh will lose its strength.

• The Holy Spirit will have freedom to work in us.

• We will become more like Christ.

Introdução

Vivemos diariamente uma batalha invisível, mas muito real: a luta entre a carne e o espírito.
A Bíblia nos ensina que “a carne cobiça contra o Espírito, e o Espírito contra a carne; e estes se opõem entre si” (Gálatas 5:17).
A grande questão é: quem está vencendo dentro de nós?
A resposta está diretamente ligada a quem estamos alimentando mais — a nossa natureza carnal ou o nosso espírito.

1. O Princípio Espiritual: Somos Servos de Quem Alimentamos

Romanos 6:16 diz:

“Não sabeis vós que a quem vos apresentardes por servos para lhe obedecer, sois servos daquele a quem obedeceis, ou do pecado para a morte, ou da obediência para a justiça?”

• Se investimos tempo, atenção e energia em satisfazer os desejos da carne, ela crescerá e dominará.

• Mas se investimos na oração, na Palavra e na comunhão com Deus, o Espírito Santo terá autoridade sobre nós.

2. Alimentando a Carne

A carne se alimenta de tudo que afasta o homem de Deus:

• Pecados visíveis: imoralidade, mentira, inveja, ódio (Gálatas 5:19-21).

• Pecados sutis: orgulho, preguiça espiritual, amor excessivo ao mundo (1 João 2:15-16).

Quando damos lugar à carne:

• A nossa sensibilidade espiritual diminui.

• Perdemos o prazer pela oração e leitura da Bíblia.

• Ficamos mais vulneráveis às tentações.

O espírito se fortalece quando:

• Meditamos na Palavra (Mateus 4:4 — “Nem só de pão viverá o homem, mas de toda a palavra que sai da boca de Deus”).

Resultado de um espírito bem alimentado:

4. O Perigo de Negligenciar a Vida Espiritual

Jesus alertou que o espírito está pronto, mas a carne é fraca (Mateus 26:41).
Se negligenciarmos nossa vida espiritual:

• Acabaremos tomando decisões baseadas nas emoções e não na direção de Deus.

• Perderemos a alegria da salvação.

• Corremos o risco de esfriar na fé.

5. Decida Quem Você Vai Alimentar

A batalha é diária e a decisão é nossa.
Paulo disse em Colossenses 3:2:

“Pensai nas coisas que são de cima, e não nas que são da terra.”

Se todos os dias escolhermos alimentar o espírito:

• A carne perderá força.

• O Espírito Santo terá liberdade para agir em nós.

• Seremos mais parecidos com Cristo.

1. Moisés e o Mar Vermelho – Confiar Quando Não Há Saída

Texto: Êxodo 14:13-14
O povo estava diante do Mar Vermelho, e atrás deles vinha o exército de Faraó. Aos olhos humanos, não havia saída. Mas Moisés declarou:

"Não temais; aquietai-vos e vede o livramento do Senhor..."

Lição para nós:

• Deus pode abrir caminhos onde não existem.

• Nossa parte é permanecer firmes e obedecer à Sua voz, mesmo quando tudo parece perdido.

2. Josué e os Muros de Jericó – Confiar na Estratégia de Deus

Texto: Josué 6:2-5
A estratégia dada por Deus era completamente fora da lógica militar: marchar em silêncio durante seis dias e, no sétimo, gritar. Mas Josué e o povo obedeceram.

Lição para nós:

• Confiar em Deus significa obedecer mesmo quando não entendemos o plano.

• A vitória não vem pelo nosso método, mas pelo poder de Deus.

3. Davi e Golias – Confiar Mesmo Sendo Pequeno

Texto: 1 Samuel 17:45-47
Davi, um jovem pastor, enfrentou um gigante guerreiro. Ele declarou:

"O Senhor... me livrará da mão deste filisteu."

• O tamanho do inimigo não importa quando confiamos no tamanho do nosso Deus.

• A confiança em Deus transforma fraqueza em força.

4. Daniel na Cova dos Leões – Confiar Mesmo Correndo Risco de Vida

Daniel não parou de orar, mesmo sabendo que seria jogado na cova. Ele confiou que Deus era capaz de guardá-lo.

• A confiança verdadeira não muda diante da pressão ou ameaça.

• A fidelidade a Deus deve estar acima da busca por segurança humana.

5. Paulo e Silas na Prisão – Confiar Mesmo no Sofrimento

Texto: Atos 16:25-26
Presos injustamente, eles cantavam louvores. Deus respondeu com um terremoto que abriu as portas.

Lição para nós:

• Confiar em Deus nos leva a adorar mesmo em meio à dor.

• A adoração em tempos difíceis libera milagres.

 Resposta: A maior barreira geralmente é o medo aliado à autossuficiência. Muitas vezes queremos controlar tudo, mas a verdadeira confiança exige abrir mão do controle e descansar na soberania de Deus.

God's Intervention when we are between the cross and the sword

                                                           

There are moments in life when we feel trapped, with no way out. On one side, challenges and obstacles that seem insurmountable; on the other, threats and pressures that seem to close in on us. In Portuguese, we say we are “between the cross and the sword.” The Bible shows us that even in these moments, God acts with power and delivers His people in ways we could never imagine.

One of the most striking examples of this is the story of the Hebrews at the Red Sea. After being freed from slavery in Egypt, they found themselves in a desperate situation: in front of them was the sea, and behind them was Pharaoh’s army, coming to capture them. In human terms, there was no solution — but God had already prepared the way.

Exodus 14:13-14 — "Moses answered the people, 'Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.'"

At that moment, God showed that His intervention is not limited by our circumstances. He commanded Moses to stretch out his staff over the sea, and the waters parted, creating a path for the people to cross on dry ground. God not only opened the way but also destroyed the pursuing army.

Psalm 46:1 — "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."

Introdução

Todos nós já passamos por momentos em que não vemos saída. De um lado, um problema que parece intransponível; do outro, a pressão que nos persegue. É o que chamamos popularmente de estar “entre a cruz e a espada”.

Foi exatamente assim com o povo de Israel, libertos do Egito, mas encurralados entre o Mar Vermelho e o exército de Faraó. Aos olhos humanos, não havia solução. Mas é nesses momentos que Deus gosta de agir, para mostrar que nada é impossível para Ele.

1. Quando o Caminho se Fecha, Deus abre de maneira sobrenatural.

O povo olhou para frente e viu o mar. Olhou para trás e viu o inimigo. O desespero tomou conta. Mas Deus não vê obstáculos como nós vemos.
“Assim diz o Senhor: Não temais, nem vos assusteis por causa desta grande multidão, pois a peleja não é vossa, mas de Deus.” (2 Crônicas 20:15)

Deus ordenou a Moisés:
“Dize aos filhos de Israel que marchem.” (Êxodo 14:15)

Quando não há saída visível, Deus cria uma nova rota. Ele abriu o mar para que o Seu povo passasse a pé enxuto. O que era impossível aos homens se tornou o caminho da vitória.

O mesmo mar que salvou Israel foi o mar que destruiu o exército de Faraó.

Deus não chegou antes do mar se tornar um problema, nem antes do exército se aproximar. Ele chegou exatamente no momento certo, para mostrar Seu poder e ensinar Seu povo a confiar.

No caso de Lázaro, Jesus só chegou quatro dias depois, quando já não havia esperança humana. Mas Ele declarou:
“Eu sou a ressurreição e a vida.” (João 11:25)

Deus nunca se atrasa, mas também não se adianta. Ele vem no tempo perfeito para que Seu nome seja glorificado.
