Luke 18:41-42*
In Luke 18:41-42, we find a brief but powerful encounter between Jesus and a blind man near Jericho:
“What do you want me to do for you?”
“Lord, I want to see,” he replied.
Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you” (NIV)
At first glance, this story might seem simple—just another miracle in the life and ministry of Jesus. But beneath the surface lies a profound lesson about faith, clarity, and the importance of asking boldly.
1. Jesus Asks the Obvious—But Why?
Interestingly, Jesus asks, “What do you want me to do for you?” to a man who is clearly blind. Wouldn’t the need be obvious? This question reveals something important about how God interacts with us—He invites us to express our faith and desires directly.
God is not distant or mechanical. He wants relationships, conversation, and participation. The question Jesus asked was not for his sake but for the blind man. It allowed him to declare his faith openly: “Lord, I want to see.”
2. Clarity in Prayer
This moment challenges us to examine how we pray. Are we specific with God? Do we know what we truly want or need? Sometimes, our prayers are vague because we haven’t taken the time to reflect on our tithes. But this man was ready with a clear and confident answer.
Jesus is still asking today, “What do you want me to do for you?” Not because He doesn’t know but because He wants to partner with our faith.
3. Faith That Moves
Jesus responds, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.” This shows us that faith is more than belief. It is trust in action. The blind man’s cry for mercy, his refusal to stay silent, and his response to Jesus’ question all demonstrated living faith.
And notice the healing was immediate. Jesus didn't delay. When faith aligns with God’s power, miracles happen.
4. A Model for Us
This story isn’t just about physical healing. It's a picture of how Jesus restores spiritual sight, direction, and purpose. Many of us walk through life spiritually blind—confused, uncertain, or in pain. But Jesus still walks by, still listens, and still asks the same question.
What if today you heard Him say,": What do you want me to do for you?”
How would you respond?
Reflection Questions:
-
Have you been clear and honest with God about your needs and desires?
-
What area of your life needs healing or restoration?
-
Is your faith bold enough to ask, even when others may try to silence you?
Let this story inspire you to come to Jesus with bold faith and clear prayers. He still listens. He still heals. And He still responds to faith.
