Ezekiel 13:1–10
“This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to the foolish prophets who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!” (v.3)
Brothers and sisters, we are living in times much like those of Ezekiel. In those days, many rose up claiming, “This is what the Lord says,” but the Lord had not spoken to them. And today, it’s no different. Many voices claim to bring a message from God—on the internet, in churches, on social media—but not all are truly speaking for Him.
Ezekiel 13 gives us a powerful and urgent warning against false prophets. God exposes those who speak without His command, who promise peace when judgment is near, and who build illusions instead of leading the people to repentance.
Main Points
1. They follow their own spirit (v.3)
False prophets do not speak from divine revelation. They speak what comes from their own hearts and minds. They are motivated by vanity, fame, profit, or comfort.
2. They promise peace when danger is near (v.10)
Instead of calling the people to repentance, they preach a false sense of security. They say, “Everything is fine, God will bless you,” even when there is unconfessed sin and rebellion in the heart.
3. They build weak walls and cover them with whitewash (v.10–15)
This is a powerful image. They construct a fragile spiritual structure and paint over it to make it look solid. This is what many do today: they create soft doctrines, promise blessings without biblical foundation, and hide the truth with sweet words.
🙏 Application
Beloved, we must ask God for discernment. The Word of God must be our foundation and filter. We cannot chase after every “revelation” or “prophecy” without testing the spirit behind it.
Jesus said: “By their fruits you will recognize them.” (Matthew 7:16)
Let us seek the fruit of repentance, righteousness, and holiness. Don’t be drawn in by words that please the ear but lead the heart away from truth.
🕊️ Conclusion
God is calling His people to be watchful. The Church must be built on truth, not on illusions. May we be like Ezekiel: a voice that speaks what God commands, even when it is hard to hear.
May the Holy Spirit give us discernment and courage to live in truth and reject deception. Amen.
