Text: “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
Introduction
The Bible teaches us that our body is not just flesh, but the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. The apostle Paul, when writing to the Corinthians, confronted a generation that used their bodies to sin, forgetting that they belonged to God. Today, we must reflect: “Has my body been a temple of the Holy Spirit, or a place for impurities?”
The Body as a Living Sacrifice - Paul also writes in Romans 12:1: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”
When we drift away from God's presence, we begin to allow spiritual garbage to accumulate in our lives. - It is like those people who suffer from deep depression and let their houses fill with trash, unable to let go of what is worthless. In the same way, without Christ, we accumulate bitterness, sins, addictions, and pain that suffocate our souls.
Spiritual Cleansing Through the Blood of Jesus
The good news of the Gospel is that Jesus comes into our lives and performs the cleansing we could never do on our own! - Hebrews 9:13-14 reminds me that the blood of Christ purifies our conscience from dead works so that we may serve the living God. Ephesians 2:13 declares: “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.” - Revelation 1:5 says that He loves us and has washed us from our sins in His own blood. - The blood of Jesus not only cleanses us but also consecrates us as the temple of the Holy Spirit.
A Call to Holiness
If the body is a temple, then it must be cared for, sanctified, and used to glorify God. -We need to observe what we do with our eyes, our hands, our mouths, and our minds. - Holiness is not only abstaining from sin, but also living a surrendered life, filled with the Spirit, and used for God’s purpose.
Conclusion and Application
The Holy Spirit asks us: “Has your body been a temple of the Spirit, or a trash deposit?”. If we recognize that there has been garbage piling up inside, we must allow Jesus to enter, cleanse, purify, and restore.
He paid a high price to make us the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.
Final Call:
Give your body, your mind, and your entire life completely to the Lord today. Let Jesus clean your soul, remove the garbage of sin, and fill you with the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Let's Pray:
Lord, my God and Father, I recognize that many times I have allowed my heart to be filled with things that don't come from You. Just like a house that piles up garbage and becomes heavy and lifeless, my soul has been filled with impurities, sins, and pains. But today, Lord, I open my heart to You. I ask: Come in, Jesus, and clean me. Remove all bitterness, every sin, every addiction, and everything that does not please You. Purify me with your precious blood, the blood that washes me from all sin and makes me worthy of being the temple of your Holy Spirit. Help me to live a holy life, using my body, my mind, and my spirit to glorify you in everything. May Your presence be real in me, and may everyone around me see that I am truly the dwelling place of the living God. In the name of Jesus, I give my life to You. Amen
