Mark 11:23 – “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain,‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.”
Jesus teaches us in Mark 11:23 that true faith has the power to move mountains. Obviously, He is not speaking only of physical mountains, but of the obstacles in our lives: problems, sickness, financial struggles, broken relationships, and situations that seem impossible to overcome.
The Lord invites us to live with an active faith .Not only believing in God but also declaring with conviction what he can do.
1. Faith that speaks and does not remain silent
-
Jesus said: “If anyone says to this mountain…”
True faith is not silent; it manifests through words. -
In Proverbs 18:21 we read: “The tongue has the power of life and death.”
What we speak in faith can bring life and transformation. -
When facing obstacles, we must declare God’s word, not our doubts.
2. Faith that doesn't doubt
-
Jesus added: “…and does not doubt in their heart…”
Doubt is the poison of faith. -
In James 1:6-7, the Bible warns us that the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. Such a person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
-
Faith must be rooted in the certainty that God is faithful and fulfills his promises.
3. Faith that conquers the impossible
-
Jesus concluded: “…but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.”
This is the faith that calls into existence the things that do not yet exist. -
In Hebrews 11:1 it is written: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
-
Biblical examples:
-
Abraham, who believed against all hope (Romans 4:18-21).
-
Joshua and Caleb, who trusted God’s promise despite the giants (Numbers 13:30).
-
David, who defeated Goliath by faith in the living God (1 Samuel 17:45-47).
-
4. Practical application
-
What is your “mountain” today? Sickness, family crisis, debts, fear, addictions?
-
Faith does not ignore the problem but believes in the God who is greater than the problem.
-
In Matthew 17:20, Jesus reinforces: “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
-
Our part is to believe, declare, and act according to that faith.
Conclusion
God calls us to live with bold faith that does not retreat in the face of obstacles. Faith opens paths where there is no way, brings hope where there is despair, and makes the impossible possible, because it is rooted in the Almighty God.
Let's Pray!
“Lord, increase my faith! Give me courage to face the mountains of life without doubting Your power. Help me to declare your word with conviction, trusting that You are faithful to fulfill all that you have promised. In Jesus’ name, amen!”
