Text: Matthew 13:24–30
“Let both grow together until the harvest...” (v. 30)
Good morning, brothers and sisters.
Today, we're looking at a story Jesus told—a parable—about a farmer, some seeds, and a surprising twist. It’s a story about patience, purpose, and God’s amazing plan to bring justice and truth in His perfect timing.
Let’s dive into the story from Matthew 13:24–30. Jesus tells us about a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat. When the plants began to grow, the workers noticed something was wrong—there were weeds growing right alongside the wheat.
So they asked the master, “Should we pull out the weeds?”
But the master said, “No. Let them grow together until the harvest.”
1. The World Is a Mixed Field
Jesus is painting a picture of the kingdom of God—but also of the world we live in.
-
In this world, there’s good and evil.
-
There are people who love and follow God and others who don’t.
-
There’s truth, and there are lies.
-
There’s kindness, and there’s cruelty.
And sometimes, we wonder, “Why does God allow evil to exist?”
Why do people who do wrong sometimes seem to succeed?
Why do people suffer even when they’re doing right?
Jesus’ answer is: “It’s not harvest time yet.”
2. God Is Patient and we should e Too
It’s tempting to want to pull the weeds now—to judge, to fix everything immediately.
But God says: “Wait.”
Why?
Because pulling the weeds too early might damage the wheat.
You might uproot something good in your rush to remove something bad.
God is powerful—He’s wise and patient.
He sees the full picture. We see only part.
2 Peter 3:9 says:
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise... He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance”
Perhaps God is giving people time to change.
Perhaps He’s giving time for you and me to grow stronger, even in hard circumstances.
3. Your Job Isn’t to Judge—It’s to Grow
Let me say that again:
Your job isn’t to judge the weeds—it’s to grow as wheat.
Sometimes, especially as believers, we get caught up in judging others:
-
Who’s right and who’s wrong?
-
Who’s real and who’s fake?
-
Who deserves to be blessed and who deserves punishment?
But the master in the parable said, “Let them grow together.”
Let God be the judge.
Let the angels handle the harvest.
Your job is to stay rooted, keep growing, and shine.
4. Harvest Is Coming
The story ends with a promise—harvest time will come.
The weeds will be separated and burned, and the wheat will be gathered into the barn.
This is a reminder that justice will come.
God does not ignore the wrongs in the world.
He’s just waiting for the right time.
And when that time comes, those who stayed faithful will be rewarded.
So, hold on.
Keep growing.
Keep trusting.
Even when it’s messy. Even when evil seems close.
God’s not finished. The harvest is on the way.
Maybe today, you feel surrounded by weeds.
Perhaps you’re struggling to grow in an environment that feels hostile.
Or maybe you're tempted to give up on people you think are "too far gone."
But Jesus says: Let them grow together.
Trust His timing.
Keep your heart right.
Keep your faith strong.
Because God is at work—even when we can’t see it.
And when harvest time comes, you’ll be glad you didn’t give up.
Call to Action / Prayer
Let’s take a moment to reflect:
Are you trying to pull weeds instead of growing wheat?
Do you need to trust God’s timing more in your life?
Is there someone you’ve judged, but God might be calling you to love instead?
Let’s pray:
“Lord, help us to grow in faith even when it’s hard. Teach us to trust Your timing, to love people with patience, and to leave judgment in Your hands. Make us strong wheat in the middle of any field we’re planted in. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
